Labels

“What do you do?”
“Oh, I am an entrepreneur.”
“Yeah. So, what do you do?”
You see where I am going with this. Some labels are bland and meaningless. The title “entrepreneur” sounds as if a person is like a ship without a rudder.

Some people got creative and began calling individual employees within the womb of a large company “intrapreneurs.” They are supposed to have entrepreneurial traits inside the corporation. Gee wiz. What the heck does that mean? What about the rest of the employees?

Forget the labels. Do what you love to do on your own terms and monetize it. That is called starting a business. I know people who do that and don’t even think of themselves as entrepreneurs or business owners.

Stacy used to be a financial analyst at an insurance company. One day she just walked out and decided to do something she likes. During this time of introspection, she did a lot of Yoga and meditation to stay calm.

Well, fast forward two years, she now has a studio where she teaches Yoga and meditation. Her practice has about 110 members paying an annual fee of $1,000 or more. Ask her if she is an entrepreneur or businesswoman; her response is a simple answer, “No. I just started doing something I like to do and getting paid for it.”

You do not need any sheepskin like an MBA or a technical degree. You just need an idea, confidence, necessary communication skills, and inspiration to get started.
