History and Database – What Works, What Does Not.

Honoring our past is what makes us human; learning from our past is what makes us wise. It is true in politics. It is true in business.

Why do people write history? Why are the events and biographies recorded? Is it because they make a good read and will sell a lot of books? No. The primary purpose of history is to teach and encourage curious minds to learn from others’ experiences.

Education and experience teach us a lot. But, only some of these academic endeavors and actual experiences must be our own. If, for everything, we try to learn by experiencing it, then one life may not be enough.

Keep a database of successful versus unsuccessful bids to win business – what works and what does not. Some learnings are bitter, but all the same true. Others may make you feel good but are detrimental to your well-being.

Always be curious. Why did we not win a competitive bid? Why did we win a competitive bid? Why was our proposal rejected? Was it, not the right shape? Or Did it not offer sufficient value? Did we lose because of an outdated business model? Are we bringing a knife to a gunfight?

Maintain a database of Wins and Losses going back at least five years. Learn from it.

I would love to hear about your experiences! Please forward it to those who could benefit from my newsletter. Please share your stories at satishmehtausa@gmail.com. They can subscribe to it here or by clicking on the link below.
