Why go back to the office or the workplace?
Workplace. It is about connecting.
Most employees at some of my client companies use Microsoft Teams or Zoom. Does that mean their need for human interaction has lessened? Nope. Not so.
There have been several technology-led revolutions. The advent of Agricultural, Industrial, Communication, Computer, and AI breakthroughs led to disruptive changes. Technology, processes, and systems change. People? Not so much.
A technology or an innovation may remove the human element in one area. But, it will also create opportunities in another. Starbucks may not compete with fully equipped virtual office companies, but its background music and the environment make it the right place for many people to work productively.
A face-to-face social need is what ‘e-whatever’ can’t replace.
Many strategic thinkers believe we can know the world entirely with a handful of websites and that they are enough to fulfill all human needs. The world and human beings are much more complex than that. The big techs, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, and Google combined are only a tiny sliver of humanity.
If you don’t believe it, you need to get out more.
